Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. Gum disease (also called periodontal disease) is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults, but with early diagnosis and proper treatment, it can often be prevented from progressing.

At Mountain Dental Arts, we’re committed to helping patients maintain healthy gums through routine preventive care and personalized periodontal treatment.

Signs of Gum Disease

Gum disease often begins with mild symptoms that can be easy to overlook. If you’re experiencing any of the following, it’s important to schedule an evaluation:

  • Red, swollen, or tender gums
  • Bleeding while brushing or flossing
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Receding gums
  • Loose teeth
  • Changes in the way your teeth fit together when you bite

Even if you aren’t experiencing symptoms, regular dental exams and cleanings allow us to detect gum disease early, when treatment is often simpler and more effective.

How We Treat Gum Disease

Treatment depends on the stage of the disease. For early gum disease (gingivitis), professional cleanings and improved home care may be enough to restore your gum health.

If periodontal disease has progressed, we may recommend scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) and ongoing periodontal maintenance to help control the infection, reduce inflammation, and protect the health of your teeth and supporting bone.

Dr. Wesley Wermuth will evaluate your gums, explain your findings, and create a personalized treatment plan based on your individual needs.

Protect Your Smile

The best way to prevent gum disease is through regular dental visits, good brushing and flossing habits, and early treatment when problems arise. Our goal is to help you maintain healthy gums and keep your natural teeth for years to come.
